Native and Mountain
Man Buckskins
In the old days, the Plains
Indian's clothing was made entirely of skins. There were
many different styles in North America. Nearly every
tribe had
its own
distinctive style of dress,
and the
people
could
often tell each other's tribal identities by looking at their clothes, head dresses,
and ornamentation. After colonization, clothes began to change,
Natives began to borrow some of each other's tribal dress, so that fringed
buckskin clothing, feather head dresses, and woven blankets became popular
among Indians
outside of the tribes in which they originated. |
